Came across this gem on the Berrics the other day. This is Gabriel more than ten years ago getting his noseslide on. Who's that lurking in the background? Randall Chew.

That time of year
What do you think of this holiday card? Mark and Gabe showing love at Phillipes'. In L.A. the holidays can result in a lot of people rushing around stressed. Go easy if you're driving. Try to spread that good vibe and have a great week.

Clips of the Day
Here some clips from a trip we took to the Woodlands which is outside of Houston. Nick and his crew met up with us in San Antonio and then we all headed east. That was a wild trip! We swam in a crazy spring, skated a bunch of cool stuff and had some run-ins with the law. We also covered a ton of ground in a short amount of time.

Ripple effect
I've bought and thrown away a bunch of plastic bottles in my time. That kind of wasteful, single-use throwaway stuff will solidly wreck our environment. We thought these water bottles might be a way we could curb our wasteful use and try to protect our environment. If we stop buying fake sugar junk drinks and just drink water we could save money, protect the environment and be healthier. Or not.

Clips of the Day
Here's Nick and Matt busting on a ledge. Some kids watched and asked "which one of you is the nicest" which in B-more means "who among you skates the best". The guy in the red house tried to make us leave and we said no, thanks. Later a cop came and watched from his car for about 30 minutes. Summer skating in City.

Clip(s) of the Day
We sponsored a contest in El Paso over the weekend. Rudy put the contest together because he wanted to. He's the type of person who can get it done. I bet he'll have a dope video of the contest as well. We're psyched that he rides for us.

Back in the Day ~ Paulo Diaz
I slammed so hard on Friday that I couldn't skate this weekend but I watched Scott and Charlie skate. Scott is psyched on Paulo's skating and throws buttery nollies and fakie ollies over things. I watched Paulo skate a couple times years ago and he had so much pop that it was ridiculous. He was so light footed that he often seemed able to move almost ahead of his ollie.

Sunday Soul ~ Chaka Khan
I was looking for the Chaka Khan song "Ain't Nobody" when I came across this version from Breakin' which was one of Hollywood's first forays into Hip Hop. In this scene Turbo drops the knowledge on Kelly so she can join the crew. Of all the eighties hip-hop/rap movies, Krush Grove is my favorite but Breakin' may be the funniest. Have a great day.

Un-fricking-beliveable! Nick Gibson who is great guy and an amazing skateboarder was working a 9-5 job in Gnar-kan-saw when he was asked to help build and then manage a new indoor skatepark in his hometown. Lucky son of a gun. When you get to know him maybe you start to think he's got good karma. Here a video of the Team Pain guys building the park and some tricks. Road Trip ~ 10 Year Anniversary
It was 10 years ago that we went on this epic journey! The world has changed so much since then. The 9-11 events hadn't happened. People didn't have smartphones, skype or youtube. None of that stuff was going on. We wanted to skate Vegas and go to the Grand Canyon so that's what we did. It was myself, Abijah, Alfonso, Bennett, Chon, Charlie, Frankie, Fernando, Jima, Raul and Randy. What a trip! I don't think you can throw rocks at the Hoover Dam or shoot video in casinos or clubs now but back then you could just go for it. For better or worse this is how we were.

Ditch Day
This ditch day in El Paso was a great one. Rudy was our tour guide and he hooked it up. We shredded lots of great stuff but this ditch is something special. Tricks by Randy, Gabe, Todd and Ryan. Later that day we triumphantly escaped the clutches of the federal authorities who detained us and searched the van. It was a memorable day for sure.

Fargo Contest
It is cool when a city shuts down one of the main streets to have a contest. Makes me think of the street contests of the 1980's. How about the Soquel Contest with the ramp over the car. Chad and the guys don't miss the opportunity to shred the streets.

Lil Weezy
Word was Lil Wayne paid some dues over the weekend and got some stitches skating in St. Louis. That guy is amazing. Rap music might not be your thing and there are some strong arguments that the rap was done long ago but his music is some powerful stuff. That is a fact. I bet he gets good at skating because as you may know he works hard.

Dang! I swam in the ocean this weekend. It was refreshing. The salt in the water reduces swelling and many believe the cold temp works to promote circulation. Made me feel so good. Sometimes I'm worried if the old school skate ethos is still alive and well. Just when I'm convinced that we've been sold out, I'm relieved when I see a fine video like this. Do it your f-ing self. Don't wait around for something to happen. Bring it and have a great day.

Papa Jack's is closing
It isn't the greatest park in the world but we love it, damn it! The City of Malibu is closing Papa Jack's Skatepark in October to allow a supermarket to be built. This one will be less than a mile from another supermarket. Super. Please contact Parks Director Bob Stallings at the City of Malibu to encourage him to find a new home for the skatepark because we need it. You can contact him here. Thanks for your help and please come out and skate our chill park.

Frickin X-Games
It's going down in downtown L.A. once again - X Games XVII. That's X-Games 17 if you don't speak Roman numerals. Check the Redbull Sheckler-centric coverage below if you can stomach the heavy duty "energy" drink influence. No matter what your beverage choice is, Sheckler kills it and might win it again. I was in Cuba several weeks ago and it was great. It was different than what many of us are used to. For example, they don't have any skate shops and many people don't seem to have enough to eat. The people are super nice and it is beautiful place. You can connect Cuban skaters here at Amigo Skate Cuba and get a feel for the scene. Check it out and have a good week.

Back in the Day: Keenan Milton
Keenan Milton was the nicest guy in skateboarding. He was cool to everyone and he ripped with great style. Keenan was friends to lots of different people from all different backgrounds. My experience was that he made you feel appreciated for whatever you had to offer. He definitely ripped and you can watch lots of videos of that. If you want to be like he was, start by being cool and nice to everyone.

I think it is safe to call it that. Enjoy.

Cuba Skate Trip
BS flip in Havana
I just got back from an amazing skate trip to Cuba. You may know that Cuba is a Communist island nation that has weather like Florida, very hot and humid. We went there to hook up skaters in Cuba because people are poor, life is hard and there aren't any skate shops. Going there made me feel lucky to have some of the things we take for granted, starting with clean water and plenty to eat. The people were great hosts and it is a beautiful place. Click on the pics to see a gallery. Thanks to everyone who made the trip great.

Back In the Day: Pat Brennen
This one's for all the Pasadena Homies growing up skating in the early 90's. Pat was a local legend. I remember watching his part in the Powell Parelta Video, Celebrity Tropical Fish (VHS tape,) and going to all the spots he skated and trying to do the same lines he did at those spots. Sadly he passed away prematurely in a car crash. miss you man! check it.

El Tepeyac East L.A. - The Hollenbeck Burrito! This is the ish!
My friend Drew and I were on a hunt for a new burrito spot that I was told about but the directions were so vague that we ended up here. Maybe you've watched Man vs Food and know that this place is famous for having the Manuel's special.(look it up). This thing is like the size of a newborn baby. If you can finish this then it's free or you win a trip to the bathroom or something. Anyways, the Hollenbeck is a half the size version of the Manuel's Special. My friend and I split it and it was perfect as we were both stuffed. Defintely a stop on the burrito tour. This gets 4.5 burritos out of five because I was too full. Go there and who knows maybe Manuel might come through with a shot of tequila. Its not unheard of.

Back in the Day: Billy Valdes
Ah, seems like it was yesterday. Billy had the energy of fifty or sixty men and it was always a party when you rolled with him. His back tailslides and back heelflips were among the most stylish. Here's his part from L.A. County. Have a great week.

James Juarez's Ad in Lowcard #38
Here's James Juarez tailsliding a roof in Lowcard #38. Not the cover pic but the ad in color. For some of us it is like a weight has been lifted now that Osama bin Laden is gone. Although his killing doesn't bring back those lost, it's fortunate to be able to have some closure and justice. Enjoy your health and freedom and have an excellent week.

Hate to see you go...
Many of us who skate Papa Jack's in Malibu love it lots. We're sad that it will be closed in October. We'll make sure to have fun before it goes and we'll remember all the good times. Please leave a comment in support of a permanent skatepark in Malibu. Thanks. UPDATE: The City of Malibu seems psyched to move the skatepark to nearby Bluffs Park. That seems to be what might happen. We'll keep you updated.

Back in the Day: Fernandez Bros.
The Fernandez brothers came to L.A. to skate, chill, and have a good time. In the 90's there were lots of skaters from all over the world skating in Southern California. There weren't any parks. Only street. Here's Jesus' and Alfonse's part from L.A. County. Have a great week.

Back in the day - Chris Franzen
Here's something for you. In the late 90's there was a lot of street skating going on at USC, Lockwood, Fairfax High and other schools. Chris Franzen was an innovator who took switch tricks to a new size and scale. Here's his part from the skate video L.A. County. We'll try to throw vids from back in the day every Monday. Have a great week.

New Park in Tokyo
Jima sent us a video of a huge, new park in Tokyo. This is a new thing for the city. It used to be that the only "permanent" places for skating in Tokyo were indoor minis and bowls. Some of these were amazing but all were small. There was also a small ledge park in a courtyard that had a bunch of action. Now there's a huge park in Tokyo that looks like it has something for everyone. No doubt this park will inspire much ripping as Japan has a long tradition of shredding. Join us in providing Tsunami Relief here.

Jima in Boardkill Mag
Jima lives in Tokyo and there are lots of cool spots but so many people that you've can only hit some of them up at night. Here's Jima with a crooked grind at that type of spot. This photo was in Boardkill Magazine. You can still donate to earthquake relief efforts here. Thanks and have a great day.
